“This music comes from highly original minds, with all nine pieces containing compulsive
narratives and unique sound worlds…” - ★★★★ - John Shand, Sydney Morning Herald

of this country’s free jazz to utilise. It’s an ensemble to be admired and eagerly consumed.”
- ★★★★★ - Barry O’Sullivan, Dingo Jazz Journal

“The whole ensemble come together to create a lush, slightly tense sonic landscape
that could be the closing credits to a film...the overall effect is spellbinding"
-★★★★★ - Hugh Robertson, Limelight Magazine

“The nine tracks present a sustained exploration off texture and space... This is the type
of sound you can luxuriate in, and there are many such instances across the album...
This is music filled with light.”  Joseph Cummins, Loud Mouth - The Music Trust E-Zine, 2021

Celebrated Sydney/Eora six-piece collective Microfiche traverse improvisation and composition in performances that celebrate the beauty of the unexpected. From ‘miniatures’ less than a minute long through to extended works, Microfiche’s music explores the detailed and surprising minutiae of sound.

Microfiche formed in 2015 as a group of like-minded friends coming together for exploratory weekly rehearsals. Across their eight years of playing they have become recognised as the country’s most original and exciting jazz ensembles, in addition to each member emerging as some of the most awarded and esteemed improvisers in Australia. Casting a wide stylistic net that draws upon jazz and experimental approaches, and a recent addition of electronics, Microfiche have over their seven years of playing developed an expressive and identifiable sound that skirts easy categorisation.

Microfiche released their eponymous debut album in 2016, followed by Everything & Other Infinities released on Creative Sources Recordings in 2021. Live performance highlights have included a 2019 European tour that featured a performance at Copenhagen Jazz Festival, Strata Jazz Festival at Phoenix Central Park (2022), as well as appearances at Sydney International Women’s Jazz Festival, Wollongong’s Speak Satellite Festival and the NOWnow Series. In 2021 Microfiche curated a month-long residency at Sydney’s 107 Projects featuring very special guest artists Chris Abrahams, Sia Ahmad, Phil Slater and Bonniesongs. In 2023 they released a live EP of highlights from the residency.  In 2022, Microfiche toured the East Coast of Australia, from Hobart to the regional town of Cobar.
